A recent report has shown positive steps towards a more inclusive education system in Serbia. The Report on Inclusive Education in the Republic of Serbia for the period 2022–2024 showed significant improvements in the accessibility and quality of education for all learners in Serbia, while also identifying areas for further development.
Assistant Minister of Education Snežana Vuković presented the report to the National Assembly in September. She highlighted that thirteen Resource Centres for inclusive education have been established to provide support to learners and school staff members. She also announced an increase in the number of pedagogical assistants supporting learners from the Roma national minority, and more learners who are following individualised education plans.
Dr Vuković emphasised that Serbia is working to improve the quality of inclusive education through national networks and associations, and by establishing partnerships with domestic and international civil society organisations. The Ministry is also working to strengthen the capacities of education professionals to provide support to learners and families.
Serbia has also introduced Model Institutions for Inclusive Education, a status which has been awarded to four primary schools. The status is granted to schools that consistently achieve outstanding results in working with learners, promote innovative pedagogical practices and serve as examples of good practice within the education system.
