External Evaluation of the Implementation of the European Schools’ Action Plan on Educational Support and Inclusive Education

The European Schools are based in six EU countries. In 2021, the European Schools’ Board of Governors (comprising the EU Ministries of Education and the European Commission) commissioned EASNIE to conduct a formative evaluation of the implementation of the European Schools’ Action Plan on Educational Support and Inclusive Education.

Inclusive Education in Action

A joint initiative by UNESCO and EASNIE since 2009, Inclusive Education in Action (IEA) is a unique online global resource base which facilitates information sharing and enhances knowledge and understanding of inclusive education.

The IEA website provides a comprehensive collection of case studies and resources on inclusive approaches to legislation, policies, programmes and practices from around the world, benefiting both policy-makers and practitioners.

UNESCO contracted EASNIE to work on a regional report to accompany the Global Education Monitoring (GEM) 2020 Report, which focused on inclusion and education. The regional report covered the UNESCO region of Central and Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. EASNIE worked on the regional report in partnership with the GEM Report team and the Network of Education Policy Centers (NEPC).

European Parliament study on inclusive education

In 2017, EASNIE conducted a study entitled Inclusive Education for Learners with Disabilities, requested and funded by the European Parliament. The report is available on the European Parliament website.

Empowering Teachers to Promote Inclusive Education

In 2015, EASNIE contributed to a knowledge base on inclusive approaches to teaching and learning, on UNESCO’s behalf. The Empowering Teachers work built in part on EASNIE’s Teacher Education for Inclusion activity (2009–2012).

The case study focusing on empowering teachers to meet diverse learning needs and promote inclusive education is available on EASNIE’s website, together with a literature review.

Model Policy for ICTs in Education for Persons with Disabilities

In 2014, EASNIE completed a contract for UNESCO to develop a Model Policy for Inclusive ICTs in Education. This contract also led to consultancy work with UNESCO in 2016 on an Annex on the Use of ICT for People with Disabilities in Uganda’s Policy for Special Needs and Inclusive Education, and input to Rwanda’s Digital Talent Policy.
